Highland Park Public Library Receives $125,000 Public Library Construction Grant

The Highland Park Public Library has been awarded a $125,000 Public Library Construction Grant from the office of the Illinois Secretary of State. The grant was submitted in January of 2024, and State Librarian Alexi Giannoulias notified the library with a letter on June 21, 2024. The grant was submitted to secure funds for the 2025 – 2026 Reimagine Your Library expansion project.
“The expansion, informed by needs assessment, strategic planning, and resident feedback, will provide expanded spaces, improved accessibility, and enhanced services.” Executive Director Heidi Smith said, “including more space for archive collections, containing the 2022 Highland Park Shooting Collection, established with an Illinois State Library grant in 2023.”
The Highland Park Public Library is moving forward with the 2025-2026 library expansion and invites the community to learn more by visiting reimaginehppl.info. Community members will find design images and information about enhanced services on the webpage. Additionally, interested community members who sign up will receive project updates via email.
